My name is Isa Chan. I am a lecturer in Language and Communication Department at CPCE cofounded by PolyU. Every semester, I teach more than 100 college students, ask for their needs in learning English in my free time, and do research for ESL education. I have a master degree in Linguistics and am taking another one in educational technology. Here are three characteristics you should know about me.

Teaching Philosophy 教學理念
My philosophy of education is intertwined with maximizations of potentiality and discoveries of uniqueness for ESL learners from all cultures, ages, ethnicity, and gender. I believe a teacher’s role is a facilitator to unveil students’ potentials by understanding peculiar single stories and customizing teaching pedagogies for distinctive learning strategies. I believe educators are accustomed to promoting cultural inclusiveness that accentuates genuine connections and intrinsic learning motivations in any form of the classroom where educational tools and technology are incorporated.
我的教育理念與來自所有文化、年齡、種族和性別的ESL學習者的潛力最大化和獨特的發現交織在一起。我相信教師的角色是促進者,通過理解奇特的單一故事和定製教學法來激發學生的潛力,以實現獨特的學習策略。我相信教育工作者習慣於促進文化包容性,在任何形式的課堂中都強調真正的聯繫和內在的學習動機,其中融合了教育工具和技術。
My educational ideals are to create ecstatic moments and safe platforms where ESL learners are malleable to share ideas, be whimsical, and show authenticity. I am compassionate and enthusiastic. Despite the passivity of introverts, I have strong intentions to build rapport and embrace students’ work from limited ideas to rich content with elaborations in a pressure-free environment. My charismatic personality and teaching devotion also shape effectual pedagogies. After I hold genuine conversations and multi-dimensional interactions with students, I deliberately customize teaching methods and materials for students. I welcome kinesthetic children to be creative with game-based learning activities, I motivate auditory young adults with speeches in communicative and formal contexts, and I proffer mature visual learners with multi-genre literacy. I believe my preference for informal assessments in the utilization of technological tools is expedient to ESL learners; these benefit monitoring processes on an individual basis, and learners successfully soothe tensions with low affective filters in an entertaining environment.
我的教育理念是創造欣喜若狂的時刻和安全的平臺,讓ESL學習者能夠分享想法、異想天開並表現出真實性。我富有同情心和熱情。儘管內向的人很被動,但我有強烈的意圖建立融洽的關係,並在無壓力的環境中接受學生的工作,從有限的想法到豐富的內容。我富有魅力的個性和對教學的奉獻精神也塑造了有效的教學法。在與學生進行真誠的對話和多維度的互動后,我特意為學生定製教學方法和教材。我歡迎動覺兒童通過基於遊戲的學習活動發揮創造力,我通過在交際和正式環境中的演講來激勵聽覺年輕人,我為成熟的視覺學習者提供多體裁的素養。我相信,在使用技術工具時,我更喜歡非正式評估,這對ESL學習者來說是權宜之計;這些有益於個人的監控過程,學習者在娛樂環境中通過低情感篩檢程式成功地緩解了緊張情緒。
